What International Women’s Day means to me…

International Women’s Day is a very important day on my calendar.

It’s a day for us to celebrate the successes that women have achieved as well as being a day where we get to pause and reflect on how far we have come and where we still have to go.

My career in real estate started out very differently from where it is today.

In one of the first roles in real estate I undertook, I was referred to in the office, not by my first name but as ‘the girl’. One day I even got into serious trouble with my boss as halfway through signing up the paperwork for a sale, he wanted me to make him a coffee and I didn’t!

Throughout my career, I’ve always been one to push the boundaries of where I’ve been told I should be and what I can and can’t do. This has often led me to the challenges of being a female working in a male-dominated industry.

But what that has led me to see is that our hard work is working.

In 2022, we have come so far.

Today is also a day to highlight the significant efforts that have gone into securing equality between the genders in various parts of our lives.

In relation to our industry specifically, we are seeing more women taking up sales careers in real estate and succeeding. We are seeing more women in leadership roles and the trend of women buying homes is on an upward trajectory.

And I am grateful for all the changes that have occurred over the years, and I look forward to the challenges and the work we still yet have to do!

This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias. Imagining Imagine a world free from bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that is diverse, equitable and inclusive.

One of the most powerful tools in spreading messages of hope and change is social media.

International Women’s Day gives us the opportunity to speak up and tell our stories of our experiences in the industry. With awareness and conversations comes action and change.

To all the INCREDIBLE women that are in my life, I’m so proud of you all and what you have achieved. Happy International Women’s Day.
