There is nothing quite so satisfying as getting to saviour the joy of missing out.
J.O.M.O. = Joy of missing out.
It’s the polar opposite of F.O.M.O. (Fear of missing out).
J.O.M.O is all about being present and content with where you are at in life.
The joy of missing out on the RIGHT things to make space for the commitments that brings us life.
How often are you giving yourself the chance to experience J.O.M.O?
The real estate industry is a reactive industry. We have to be on ALL. THE. TIME.
There is always somewhere to be, something to see and someone to network with.
We can find ourselves easily caught up in the hustle.
We’re always competing. For the listing, for the sale, for attention in the marketplace.
It can be difficult not to get caught up in the cycle of comparing ourselves to others in the industry that are succeeding, especially when we work so hard.
Our phones are always by our sides; they have almost become an additional limb!
The over-reliance of technology keeps us “connected” but not necessarily in a way that is healthy. Have you ever caught yourself compulsively checking your phone? Is it the first thing you look at in the morning when you wake up? How about those moments when you find yourself with nothing to do (rare, I know).
Are you stopping and pausing, or do you end up mindlessly scrolling?
Real Estate is an industry that I LOVE. I love the excitement of it. I love the people that I get to meet and the properties I get to see. I love everything about it.
I’ve been able to maintain my love for it by consciously (and subconsciously!) practising J.O.M.O.
Saying no to the things, events and experiences that I know aren’t necessary and will burn me out and saying yes to those that engage and fulfil me!
When I’m present, put down my phone and experiencing life with my friends or husband, I’m reminded how wonderful life really is in the small moments.
Make space for these moments.
Think for yourself. At the end of your life, will you regret missing the chance to like that post on Instagram, not going to that party that one time and staying in or saying no to that client/listing/promotion that sounds fancy but you know is going to be more trouble than it’s worth…
Or will you miss those moments that you were working too late/every day to spend time with the ones you love and explore things that made you happy?
I know which one it is for me.
That’s why I’ll choose J.O.M.O every time over F.O.M.O.
