When I first started working with Lynn Milsom three years ago, she was returning to real estate on the mainland after time on Hamilton Island and maternity leave. She was juggling self-doubt, change and the pressure to perform. What struck me immediately was her blend of compassion, professionalism and a clear drive to deliver excellence for her clients.
Together, we rebuilt her business from the inside out, resetting her mindset, refining her systems, and shaping a unique team model that plays to everyone’s strengths.
Today, Lynn is a standout lead agent at Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty in the Whitsundays, known for her structure, consistency and prestige service at every price point. In this blog, she shares the journey that’s taken her from restart to powerhouse.
When I returned to mainland real estate after nearly five years on Hamilton Island and a year of maternity leave, I felt like I’d landed on another planet.
Gone was the walk-in business model of island life.
Gone, too, was the day-to-day rhythm I used to know.
I’d become a mum and while I was away the real estate sector had changed. A lot.
Rebuilding belief: Starting fresh with the right mindset
When I stepped back into real estate, I knew I had the skills, but I didn’t feel like I had the confidence.
My head was full of doubt, and I found myself questioning everything: Am I still capable? Can I really do this at a high level again?
That’s where Sherrie came in.
She didn’t just coach me on business tactics, she helped me rebuild belief in myself.
She reminded me of the value I bring, the results I’ve delivered, and the standards I hold myself to.
Rebuilding from the inside out
Once my mindset was in a better place, Sherrie helped me reconnect with what I already knew, reframe my thinking and taking small but powerful steps forward, until I looked up and realised I was back on solid ground.
We worked together brick by brick: rebuilding systems, refining my listing presentation, strengthening my prospecting strategy and putting routines in place that I could actually follow.
Most importantly, she helped me take action without waiting for it to be perfect.
As a self-confessed perfectionist, that was a game-changer.
Sherrie played a huge role in helping me shake off the imposter syndrome that had started to creep in.
It wasn’t about becoming someone new, it was about backing the agent I already was.
Prestige is about consistency, not price point
People often ask how to break into the prestige market.
For me, that journey started back on Hamilton Island, where I was lucky enough to work on $8 – 9 million listings.
That experience gave me a foundation. Aligning with Sotheby’s helped elevate that.
But here’s the thing: prestige isn’t about the price tag.
It’s about the standard you hold yourself to - no matter the listing.
Whether it’s a $200,000 block of land or a $20 million island home, our approach doesn’t change.
Beautiful marketing. Quality copywriting. A seamless, professional experience from start to finish.
That’s our minimum standard.
That consistency is what builds trust and ultimately, reputation.
Lessons from the longest deal of my life
Early last year, I had the most drawn-out negotiation of my career.
It took three months to get the deal together and almost a year to settle.
The buyer and seller just couldn’t meet on price… or terms… or timeline.
There were moments where I wanted to walk away.
But Sherrie kept reminding me: “You’ve got two people who want to make a deal.” Her guidance kept me steady.
That experience taught me that no deal is a given.
You can’t take your foot off the pedal until it’s signed and unconditional.
And that perseverance, patience and belief, in yourself and in the process, are everything.
What’s next for me?
I’m proud of where I’ve landed, but I’m not done yet.
The next chapter is about continuing to scale the business, grow our team, and keep elevating the standard of service we offer, especially in the prestige space.
I want to keep refining how we operate, how we market and how we lead.
I want our brand and our clients, to feel the impact of that excellence at every touchpoint.
And I want to keep growing personally.
As a mum, and a business owner, that balance can be tricky.
But I’ve learned that with the right support, the right mindset and the right systems, you really can have both.
Final word? Don’t go it alone
If you’re coming back from a break, navigating a market shift, or just trying to figure out what’s next, don’t try to do it all by yourself.
Having a mentor in your corner, who believes in you even when you don’t, makes all the difference.
Because sometimes it’s not about learning something new.
It’s about remembering who you were before the doubt crept in and finding a way to show up as that version of you again.
