Always turn a negative situation into a positive situation.

There are going to be times in our business and career that we come across negative situations.

They can be super uncomfortable and stressful, but sometimes the worst thing to happen to you may just turn out to be the best thing that could have happened!

Have a positive mindset during a negative situation can often turn the entire situation around. So how do we go about turning something negative into something positive?

First, it’s important to note that a leader’s mistake or failure is often a turning point to success. Failing has for a long time held a negative stigma but how do you challenge the status quo and how things are currently done without “failing” sometimes.

This failure sometimes is the instigator to a negative experience; however, EVERY problem always has several solutions and while at the moment it may feel like it, it’s not the end of the world.

When something happens, no matter how big the problem is, give yourself some time to process it. Find out why it happened but focus more of your time on fixing the issue.

Mistakes happen, BUT how you approach finding a solution is what moves you forward. Figuring out what went wrong should not only be the focus to find a solution but a way to ensure it doesn’t happen again.

Next, reframe the experience. Use it to your advantage.

What went wrong?

How do you handle it?

What did you learn?

How can you prevent or approach it better if it happens again?

What you learn from a negative experience and take away from it is so valuable to your self-development.

Once you’ve reviewed the experience, let it go. Don’t hang on to the experience.

Instead of getting caught up in your thoughts or emotions, take the time to observe the situation for what it is, accept that it is happening whether you want it to be or not, and then let go of the need to change what is happening.

Flexing this muscle over time will help you remain calm, and solution focussed if and when negative situations occur.

So, my question for you today is: “Which recent negative situation in your life can you turn into a positive?”
