How to avoid agent burn out.

As real estate agents, we can work for long hours and work HARD.

A successful agent is passionate, organised and motivated. Being built this way does come at a cost sometimes and we find ourselves sacrificing our rest and recuperation and time with family and friends for work.

This inevitably leads to agent burn out.

I’ve seen it A LOT throughout my career and believe it’s important to ensure that you give yourself the best chance to avoid burning out.

How? I’ve listed some tips below.

Setting boundaries

Make sure that you set boundaries for yourself within your business, so that you’re not always “on”. A Boundary can cover anything from not responding to emails and text messages from 7:30 pm, to switching your phone on do not disturb during your exercise sessions. These are non-negotiable time outs for you where you get to recalibrate!

Be upfront with people as to what your boundaries are, you will find that most people will respect them!

Structures and systems

Set yourself up with a great structure so you’re not working in constant chaos. Having a process for each element of your business ensures that things are still happening even when you are not there AND it provides you with a great baseline when you are ready to expand your team.

Choosing your clients

I think one thing that we fail to realise in real estate is that you don’t have to work with everyone. We’ve all had that one client that we’ve taken on, knowing that they were not going to be a good fit.

At the time you may feel boxed in, but you don’t have to take them on.

Quite often these clients, take up more time and energy, have unachievable expectations, are difficult to work with and unappreciative when you actually really get the highest price possible for them.

Value your time and energy and save it for the people that you want to work with.

Switching on flight mode

Always have some flight mode time scheduled that you can look forward too. Whether this be a weekend off a month, a full day every two weeks or an extended holiday in the near future. I can’t stress how important it is for you and your health to make sure that you are dedicating time to stop, re-energise and recalibrate.

We work in real estate because we LOVE it. So, it’s important to ensure that you give yourself longevity in your career and that you are enjoying the journey and ensuring that you are out there building your best life!
