How seriously do you take social media as a tool for your business?
Did you know that 18 million Australians are now active social media users? That’s 71% of our total population. The average Australian spends 1 hour and 44 minutes on social media in a DAY. (*We are social, digital support series 2020).
With such a huge audience, the reality is that if you're not actually on social media and using it to its full potential, you're actually missing opportunities. You're missing out on business.
Back when I started back on the tools in selling real estate in 2011 and after managing my own and other agencies, I knew that I had to figure out a way to become successful and quickly. I was on a mission to find a way to do that and fast. I had the work ethic; I was developing all my systems and structures and I was learning as much as I could at every chance.
One of the talks at AREC that year I attended was by Tom Ferry, he spoke about social media and what was happening in America and the cut-through that agents were having. I came home that year, did as much research as it as I could and jumped on the opportunity it presented.
Social Media is trial and error. It’s a process that as an agent you need to be engaged with and testing all the time. I used my social media platforms as a prospecting tool. A secondary database of interested people that I could reach out to with relevant information.
As it was so closely linked with my personal brand, it was a great way to build my profile. It allowed me to differentiate myself from my competition, educate and provide my audience with the information they were searching for, connect with them AND generate more business, make more sales and get more referrals.
Social media for me lead directly to multiple sales and referrals. One client's post lead to three listings that sold in excess of about $12 million dollars and opened the door to additional appraisals to the value of $7.5 million!
